Growing up, baking was not reserved for celebrations. It was the after-school loaf still warm enough to take butter, my mother’s rainy-day egg custard, and the banana cake that crowned a humble Sunday meal. Home taught me that something made with care can make simple moments extraordinary. And those hours at the counter taught me that baking was really about the time we spent together.
Years later, at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, I learned pastry as discipline—ratio, heat, restraint. That training did not replace the kitchen I came from; it gave it a spine I could carry home. What began in my childhood kitchen had found its purpose. For nearly twenty-five years, that purpose has been Belle Epicurean, where from behind the pastry case, I’ve had the joy of taking part in countless mornings, family tables, celebrations and everyday moments.
Now, I want to inspire a new generation of home bakers to gather in their own kitchens: friends and family around the counter, a cake cooling nearby and a house filled with sweet smells and conversation.
Belle House Pantry is just that—beautiful ingredients, thoughtful recipes and a little French savoir-faire made wonderfully approachable for your home kitchen. Each mix is a novelette from my time in France. So, I encourage you to bake often, gather generously, make a little mess and bake for (and with) the people you love.
